One current issue that I feel is the most important to nursing today is cardiovascular area and the demand for nurses in this area. This specific area of the medical field concentrates on a major organ of the human body: the heart. The heart is responsible for pumping blood to the rest of the body and as a nurse working in this area I would be responsible for treating countless others and ensuring that they are diagnosed properly and given any and all appropriate medications so the patient may get better. Nowadays people are so concerned with becoming healthy and take so many enhancers all damaging their heart in the long run. The nurses in the cardiovascular area are the ones who will be treating them later on when all of the artificial enhancer catch up to them. Plus, we live in a community with a large older population, and as they get older their hearts have a harder time pumping the blood within their body. Working in the heart area can allow nurses to return to this area and provide some very well deserved community service to the individuals who may not be able to afford the care they require such as the elderly. Also, look at the high rate of heart attacks now, there is not enough nurses who are skilled enough to take care of all the ever increasing amount of elderly people.
Then there is becoming certified in the pediatric heart area so I can help both adults and children if I needed. A child is seen as someone who is just starting to live their life and needs as much assistance possible to keep them healthy so they can grow and enjoy life and all its possibilities. Some of the babies are born with holes in their hearts and grow up with heart complications thus needing pace makers. Someone has to be able to have knowledge in the cardiovascular area to help these babies as well as help them in the future.
Thousands of students say they would like to get in the nursing program and become a nurse in the future. However, no one is ever specific about why they want to become a nurse of in what area. I was involved in the medical explorers club in high school and was lucky enough to be able to explore all of the different areas of the medical field that nurses could be and none of them were as intriguing as the cardiovascular area. The heart supports the body, allows blood to be circulated all over, and allows it to perform all the functions that it is designed to. If the heart fails, the body cannot function without it. The heart to the body is like the government to the United States, without it there is chaos inside and it will all come to an end.
There are so many different diseases associated with the heart that can cause it to stop in a second like obesity. People do not realize all the little things that affect their heart, but who will be there to help them in the hospital room; the nurse who specialized in the cardiovascular area. I feel the most important issue in nursing today is the cardiovascular area and the lack of knowledge people have in it.
Hopefully I will become a nurse specialized in the cardiovascular area so I could use my position to educate all patients and the general public of heart related illnesses and related health matters. I would also remind people that their possibilities are endless when they have knowledge about something they are interested in.
